- Get permission to make a collection at the gates to your local rugby match (we can give you buckets)
- Approach local businesses to see if they will sponsor your team
- Hold a fundraising dinner and ask local businesses to donate raffle/auction prizes
- Hold a car boot sale and charge cars entry money
- Ask to hold a tombola at a local fete (get your friends to donate a prize each)
- Hold a pub quiz at your local
- Hold a race night in a local bar/club rooms
- Put together a charity concert
- Organise an Easter egg hunt for/with a local youth group or school
- Organise a book/toy swap at a local community centre
- Have a fashion show - showcase your own club’s kit at the same time!
- Have a charity five/seven-a-side tournament. Why not get some old faces from the past involved?
- Ask to run a ‘guess how many’ comp at a local event (you can make the contents specific to your group and make the vessel as big as you dare!)
- Why not just have a change amnesty – get people to bring you all their loose change by a certain deadline and see how much you get!
- Have a burns supper or, if you’re attending one, ask if you can run a raffle or a slave auction
These are just some things you can try but feel free to contact us if you need any more ideas or would like help with how to promote your initiative.
Tips to get the most out of fundraising
Remember there’s a prize for the top fundraisers so get started early!
- Choose an interesting and descriptive name for your team, some examples from last year are:
- Last of the Summer Winos
- No Balls All Heart
- Hawks Has Beens
- Team Black Watch
- Every penny does literally make a difference so just approach everyone even if they can’t offer big amounts
- Make sure all of your team members have sponsorship forms, photocopy extras and take them around work, the local, friends’ houses - never leave home without one!
- Download any promotional materials from the website – you should find fliers and posters which you can put in local clubs, events or the notice board at work
- Email all of your email contacts or send a Facebook message to all your friends to let them know you’re taking part. (you/they can become a friend of Hearts and Heroes on Facebook or follow us on Twitter)
- If you have connections with local businesses, ask them if you can put up a poster with your contact information on it. You could offer to display their logo on your kit when you walk
- Speak to local newspapers or radio stations, they may be keen to follow your progress! If you need any help with that please get in touch.
